MISSIONS AND EVANGELISM
It is not disputable that the main concern and supreme task of the
Anglican Diocese of Calabar is Mission and Evangelism. The Bishop has
consequently organized and is still organizing various missionary and
evangelical activities cutting across the length and breadth of the
entire Diocese. It has been regular, effective and productive. This has
lead to:
- CHURCH GROWTH:
There has been a tremendous increase in the
number of churches in the
Diocese of Calabar in the past two year. As a result of the aggressive
evangelism the church have increased from about 18 churches in 1999 to
about 93 in 2003. This has been amazing and tremendous growth which is
as a result of the missionary program of the Diocese. The growth,
however, is not without its attendant problems – increase in wages to be
paid, need for training of pastors, recruitment of workers and placement
or rehabilitation of erstwhile idol priests and priestesses ,need for
purchase of boats and vehicles to the riverine and interior jungles.
Then, the need to get church buildings for each of the churches.
- Just
Now, the Diocese intends to do the following in pursuance of church
growth program:
I. Recruit more local and indigenous church Workers
II. Identify areas yet unreached and plan how to reach out to those
places.
- III. Do an in-depth study of the
additional gods and goddesses and idols that are being worshipped in
many more parts of Cross River State (Diocese) and be able to reach out
more to the Heathen and Iconoclastic. This is very crucial and necessary at
this stage of the growth of the Diocese. This will also make it
necessary to open more churches.
- IV. Work hard to ascertain that the already existing new/baby churches
are visited constantly to ensure its continued growth and sustenance.
Good teaching, support, encouragement will definitely to a lot in this
respect.
- V. Re-design our prayer network for effective results and greater
partnership.
